My first book launched at the end of June and has been selling so fast that a reprint is in hand for the end of this week. This success is not down to marketing hype - the book launched very quietly - but the result of good reviews and word of mouth recommendation.

I'm now on a hectic nationwide promotional tour, signing books and giving talks, appearing at festivals and giving interviews to newspapers and various BBC Radio stations. It's fun, travelling around the UK from Brighton to York, Bath to Manchester, Stratford to Bournemouth, Nottingham to Cambridge, and any number of locations in between, as well as signing in London stores. So why do I call myself a local author?

I've committed to as many local events as possible, signing regularly in Harrow bookshops and talking to many reading groups and writers' circles in the borough. There are many reasons why I favour local venues. Time is clearly a factor, but that isn't the most important issue. Developing a sense of local community is.

I've met so many friendly people on my visits around Harrow - the librarians in the borough couldn't be more welcoming. All the reading groups I've met so far have been enthusiastic, and the writers' circles, keen to hear about my rollercoaster ride as a published author - everyone has been amazingly supportive.

As part of my commitment, I'll be blogging here regularly, once a fortnight, telling you about my life as a Harrow Author. My experiences over the past six weeks alone would be enough to fill my posts for the coming year!
